Kia Orana: This is the traditional greeting in the Cook Islands - which means 'may you live long' - pronounced "Key-yah + Oh-ra-nah."  And the appropriate response to this is by the way, in the same manner with the words 'Kia Orana' The Cook Islands is made up of 15 islands, spread widely across some two million square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean. The islands are grouped together - the Southern Group, which consist of: Rarotonga, the capital of the Cook Islands. The others are Aitutaki, Atiu, Mitiaro, Mauke, Mangaia, Palmerston, (Manuae and Takutea - which are protected reserves).

The Northern Group is made up of Manihiki, Rakahanga, Penrhyn, Pukapuka, Nassau and Suwarrow (a National Park).

Seasons: The cooler months are from May through to October, with temperatures ranging from 22º C to 27° C; while the warmer months are from November through to April with temperatures ranging from 26º C to 30°C. Most of the rainfall occurs during the warmer summer months from September/November - February.

The Cook Islands is in the same time zone as Hawaii, where the climate is very much the same.

Rarotonga is the port where all flights depart and arrive from New Zealand; Tahiti; and Los Angeles, USA, and of course the direct Sydney to Rarotonga flights.
'Fruits of Rarotonga' is a marine reserve and protected, it is the best snorkeling spot on the island.
